2024 Prize Giving Ceremony at Edith Cowan University
Congratulations are extended to Jessica Harrison who was awarded the 2024 Marilyn Yates Prize for academic excellence. The prize was presented to Jessica by HEIAWA life-member Marilyn Yates at the Edith Cowan University Prize giving ceremony, which was held at the Mount Lawley campus on Saturday 8th February, 2025. This prize, donated by HEIAWA, recognises the student who completes the Bachelor of Education (Home Economics) qualification with the highest academic score across the four years of the course.
Jessica, an O’Malley scholar, has been the student representative on the HEIAWA Committee of membership for the past two years and her contribution has been valued. She has been appointed to a full-time position at Wanneroo SHS.
Each prize winner at the ECU ceremony is required to write a short paragraph about their experiences throughout their time at University. Below is the statement written by Jessica, which was read at the event.
Going to uni has been the most challenging yet rewarding thing I have ever completed. I am so grateful to have my family, especially my husband, supporting me through this journey, and I'm sure he's glad it's over too. The connections I have made, and the knowledge I have learnt has kick-started my career and drive to be the best teacher I can possibly be. This wouldn't be possible without staff like Sandy Smith and Ellen Morrow guiding me through the difficult times and celebrating with me the rewarding moments. I am truly grateful for this award and the recognition it brings to the strengths of Home Economics Teachers.
