World Home Economics Day 2018
HEIAWA celebrated World Home Economics Day with a sundowner held at Penrhos College in South Perth.
In keeping with this year’s theme ‘Home Economics Literacy: Skills for Healthy and Sustainable Cooking’, attendees then enjoyed a variety of tasty bush food snacks before listening to a special Bush Foods Presentation by Marissa Vernon from Bindi Bindi Dreaming. Marissa shared her lifetime experiences about Noongar culture and bush foods and discussed the wonderful bush food flavours now available. She demonstrated how to create and infuse foods using native herbs and spices and we were delighted to be able to sample the finished products. The evening concluded with attendees enjoying a social drink and catching up with colleagues.
Thanks to Penrhos College for providing the venue and special thanks to Jen Rule who organised and hosted the event.
